With a show of hands, how many of you out there watch romantic comedies? Ok now put them down. How many people think relationships and dating work just like that? Well it might be a good time to re-evaluate your mindset and enter the real world. Might be a good time to step out of the movies and into real life happiness.

• You will not meet the person by a major fluke: The person of your dreams is not a runaway dumpster or mis-dialed phone number away. You have to be active in your search. You have to put yourself out there and be available to the people you want to meet. If you believe in fate you have to know, fate favors the bold. If you want to wait for fate to bring a relationship to you, stop reading now.

• You can be a normal person and still find love: I know the quirky, slightly off, minor personality flawed person always finds the perfect relationship. Well in the movies anyway. If you are this person, kudos, if you are not, be you. Normal, everyday people, people with normal jobs, cars of one color, who shop in standard stores, deserve love too. You do not have to be just like a character from ‘friends’ to deserve someone wonderful, or to be a wonderful person for someone else. People date other people without any oddity to guide them through the process or be a focal point. Dating happens, accept it.

• You do not have to fail to succeed, just go straight to the success: Ok now follow the plot; Boy meets Girl, Boy falls for girl, Boy screws up royal, Boy desperately chases Girl, Girl suddenly realizes how incomplete she is without Boy, Boy gets Girl. WOW, i have seen this before, just not in real life. Try this plot; Boy meets girl, both act honest and upfront about themselves, they go on a date without someone knowing a night watchman to give them exclusive access, they have a relationship and are happy. You do not need to fail, you do not need a major mistake to go to the next level. People get things right the first time everyday in relationships.

• Epiphanies are about you, not relationships: you can not have a grand realization about someone else with true insight. Your bright and shiny moments of clarity are about you. It can happen while dating and it could be something to help in dating and relationships. Meeting that someone, dating, being in a relationship, all of the above, you still exist.

Most Americans do not know this, romance existed before there were movies. Same as there were relationships, people went on dates, and found happiness. You can too, just get real in your mindset, get into your real life.
