ALWAYS tell a friend.
Tell at least one friend or family member who you are meeting, where you are going and when you expect to return. Let your date know your meeting is not a secret. Call them during the date if you decide to change locations.
DO not drink in excess.
You wits and control are your best friends. Dating online is safe, this just adds to everyday safety.
Everyone has a cell, bring yours: Be reachable, it is ok to check back with friends or family during a date. Do this in the restroom if you prefer not to show you checking in.
Take your own car or mode of transportation.
There is nothing wrong with taking a cab. If you go to another location, drive yourself.
Keep your items with you, do not leave your things unattended. Don’t risk having your personal information stolen. The same goes for your drink - don’t risk having it tampered with.
Do not go to each others homes: Your home is your safety place, keep it that way until trust is built. If you feel pressured, end the meeting and leave at once.
Do not be afraid to set the next date when you feel comfortable: If the other person is sincerely interested in you, he or she will want you to feel safe and allow you a few dates to get there.
