You’re sitting across from a great guy you met on Fabulous Personals. You can’t remember the last time a first date went so well. You’re attracted to the guy. He has all the qualities you’re looking for in a mate. He would even get your mom’s approval if he had a choice. The date ends and you actually have butterflies. You can actually smell a relationship in the making. A week passes and the cold reality sinks in that this great guy has no not called even to check that you had a good time.

What did you do? How did you screw up a great date?

Did you lie? If your profile states no kids, athletic and raking in the big bucks and the first date reveals two young kids, an extended waistline and unemployment checks, then he definitely noticed.

Nothing says trust issues for a guy more than lies, men react the same to these as woman.

Were you neurotic? Did you read into every comment he made? Were you demanding to know extremely personal information immediately? Did you discuss the future as a couple? Breathe, give things time to develop.

Did you give him the third degree? Did the cross-examination begin before the menus arrived? Did you make him defend everything he has ever done in his life? Did you make him a Perry Mason stand-in? Allow things to come out naturally. How would you enjoy explaining your behavior at a bachelorette party to someone you just met?

Did you make him wait? The 50’s are over, the sitting downstairs with your dad while you touched up is long gone. Keeping a date waiting 15 minutes or not showing is unacceptable.

Did you project high-maintenance? “Thanks for taking me out. Next time can we go somewhere nice!” A burger and a beer still costs money, and if you did not buy, grattitude is in order. Maybe you did not express your interests enough and he went a safe route.

Always look inward before assuming outward.
